'Not Just A Community, Every Indian Is Assaulted': Tharoor On Reports Of Attack On Christians Shashi Tharoor expressed concern over reports of attacks on Christians, saying any assault on a community amounts to an assault on every Indian. Congress MP Shashi Tharoor on Thursday expressed concern over reports of attacks against the Christian community in parts of the country, asserting that any assault on a particular community amounts to an assault on the nation as a whole. Extending Christmas greetings, Tharoor underlined Kerala’s long-standing political and social ethos of religious harmony and mutual respect. Recommended Stories Reacting to reports suggesting attacks against Christians, he said, “When people of a community are assaulted, every Indian is assaulted." “Respect for the cultural and religious traditions of all communities is central to Kerala’s politics," he added. “Sadly, there are attacks on Christians in different parts of the country. Even in Kerala, there was an attack on a carol singing group in Puducherry in Palakkad, which is truly shocking because when our traditions are attacked, it is not only Christians who are attacked, but all of us. Every Indian is assaulted," Tharoor said. “Our constitutional guarantee of freedom of worship, freedom of belief, is being attacked, and we must all stand in solidarity with our Christian brothers," he added. Satheesan further alleged that those who appear friendly during Christmas celebrations, including individuals visiting homes with cakes, could be “wolves in sheep’s clothing" and part of forces involved in attacks against Christians across the country. Without naming anyone, he claimed that such actions were aimed at intimidating minority communities. He also questioned the opposition to the distribution of The Bible, describing such positions as unconstitutional and anti-democratic, and said they would be resisted across the country. This came after reports of alleged attacks on Christian groups in some states and an incident involving a Christmas carol group in Pudussery in Palakkad district. According to reports, the carol group, comprising children, was visiting the houses of the faithful in an area on Sunday night when it was stopped.
