Asim Munir Claims Pakistan Used '90% Indigenous Tech' Against India After Op Sindoor. Here's The Truth Unfortunately for Pakistan, the army chief’s assertions go beyond exaggeration, amounting to blatant falsehoods repeated despite public, verifiable evidence to the contrary Share Your Feedback Choose News18 on Google Pakistan’s Army Chief, Field Marshal Asim Munir, has reignited controversy with bold statements asserting that Pakistan’s armed forces used “90 per cent indigenous technology" in recent hostilities with India after Operation Sindoor and successfully downed Indian Rafale, Su-30, MiG-29, Mirage 2000 and S-400 systems. Munir made the claims while promoting a major arms sale, including JF-17 fighter jets, to Libya’s Libyan National Army. In a viral video, Munir can be heard saying, “In our recent war with India, we showed our Pakistani technology to the world. 90 per cent of that was indigenous Pakistani technology. Using that technology, the Pakistan Air Force took out Rafale, Su30, MiG29, Mirage2000, and S400." Recommended Stories Unfortunately for Pakistan, the army chief’s assertions have no factual basis and go beyond exaggeration, amounting to blatant falsehoods repeated despite public, verifiable evidence to the contrary. Satellite imagery, wreckage analysis, international media reporting, and statements from neutral defence experts have consistently shown no confirmed loss of Indian Rafale jets, Su-30s, Mirage-2000s, MiG-29s, or the S-400 system, nor any proof that Pakistan achieved the air-combat successes Munir claims. The Press Information Bureau’s (PIB) Fact Check unit too has exposed Pakistani propaganda that involves deliberately circulating fabricated content to mislead citizens and undermine public confidence in India’s defence preparedness and military capabilities. French defence experts also clarified that supposedly downed Rafale wreckage circulating online was misidentified, and no credible proof exists that a Rafale was shot down. At the same time, recovered debris and open-source intelligence have repeatedly identified Chinese-origin missiles, drones, radars, and avionics used by Pakistan during the conflict, directly contradicting Munir’s assertion that “90 percent" of the technology was indigenous. The JF-17 Thunder is a jointly developed aircraft between Pakistan and China, with core avionics, radar and many key systems of Chinese origin. Design and production involve Chinese technical leadership, with Pakistan’s contribution mainly in assembly and incremental upgrades, say defence experts. Speaking at an event in July this year, Deputy Chief of Army Staff (Capability Development & Sustenance) Lt Gen Rahul R Singh had said that “81 per cent of the military hardware with Pakistan is Chinese" and that China was providing all possible support to Pakistan during India’s Operation Sindoor. He added that Pakistan was “like a live lab" for China as it was “able to test its weapons against other weapons". The instances show that by calling Chinese-origin systems “Pakistani technology" while actively selling them abroad, Munir is not exaggerating but is rebranding foreign military hardware for political and commercial gain.
