Nas reveals Eminem turned down âLife Is Goodâ collaboration
Nas has revealed that Eminem turned down a collaboration on his 2012 album âLife is Goodâ. The rapper shared the story in a new interview with Joe Budden, where he said that he attempted to feature Eminem on his single âDaughtersâ, but the offer was declined. âEvery record I do is not a battle. I remember I sent the song âDaughtersâ to Eminem and at the time he had spent so much time speaking on daughters, he was like, âThank you, but I told my daughter Iâm not gonna do anymore songs directly about daughters at the moment because itâs a sensitive issue with all the music Iâve put out,ââ he said, alluding to songs like âMockingbirdâ and âHailieâs Songâ. âI think [his] message was like, âThank you âcause most people want to do songs where theyâre battling me on a record. It was refreshing to get a record where youâre not coming for me.ââ The pair have only worked together twice, the first on âThe Crossâ, which Eminem produced for Nasâs 2002 album âGodâs Sonâ. Then, in 2021, they linked up for âEPMD 2â, from Nas and Hit-Boyâs âKingâs Disease IIâ . Recommended Through the years, theyâve both spoken about their admiration for each other. Most recently, Eminem opened up about the impact that Nasâs 1994 debut âIllmaticâ had on him, in an interview with The New York Times . âI remember The Source gave âIllmaticâ five mics [a perfect score],â he told the publication. âI already knew I liked Nas from âLive at the Barbequeâ with Main Source because his verse on that is one of the most classic verses in hip hop of all time. But I was like, âFive mics, though? Let me see what this is.â âAnd when I put it on, âAnd be prosperous, whough we live dangerous / Cops could just arrest me/Blaminâ us, weâre held like hostages.â He was going in and outside of the rhyme scheme, internal rhymes. That album had me in a slump, too. I know the album front to back.â Back in 2021, he also revealed that he once spent $600 (ÂŁ431) on a sealed cassette tape of âIllmaticâ . In 2020, Nas caught up with NME and told us what he thought about hip-hop today. âTodayâs game doesnât faze me; itâs different. Iâm in a different place. I have a different job when it comes to making music,â he told us. âItâs strange because Iâm the same me, but Iâm older. So thereâs different ways of going about things and different things that I care about. But the clout thing stands out because itâs show business.â
