Hundreds turn out for annual Christmas Eve busk in Dublin

By RTÉ NewsNews Headlines

Hundreds of people have turned out in Dublin City tonight for the annual Christmas Eve busk in aid of the Dublin Simon Community. Oscar-winning singer-songwriter Glen Hansard kicked off proceedings from 5pm, outside the Gaiety Theatre off Grafton Street. The busk is now in its 15th year. A host of famous faces have joined it over the years, including Dermot Kennedy, Bono, and the Coronas. Speaking ahead of tonight's gig, Dublin Simon Community Chief Executive Catherine Kenny said it’s become a festive tradition. She said they are incredibly grateful to Glen Hansard, who was the brainchild behind the event back in 2010. "We’re incredibly grateful to him and all of the artists who lend their talents to us to help raise money to support our life-saving and life-changing services," Ms Kenny said. "Christmas can be a particularly tough time of year for those experiencing homelessness. If you’re in a position to help out, please consider donating to us while you enjoy our special Christmas concert."
