Bengaluru: Woman Accuses Cops Of Showing 'Sympathy' Towards Man Who Groped Her In Metro A 45-year-old was arrested for allegedly groping a woman on Namma Metro. Police registered an NCR but let him go after apology, citing age and intoxication, sparking criticism. A 45-year-old man was arrested after he allegedly groped a woman while travelling on a Namma Metro train. However, the woman claimed that the police showed sympathy towards the accused citing his age and intoxicated condition. According to a report by Deccan Herald, Muthappa, a native of Belagavi, allegedly touched the woman inappropriately and smiled, causing her severe discomfort. Enraged by his behaviour, she confronted him and alerted metro security personnel. Recommended Stories As the situation escalated, security staff intervened and questioned the man. Muthappa then reportedly apologized in public, even falling at the feet of people present at the Kempegowda (Majestic) metro station. However, the woman took the accused to the jurisdictional Upparpet police station. Following this, police registered a Non-Cognisable Report (NCR) for indecent behaviour and let the man off after he apologised. According to police, the suspect who is a housekeeper at a private company, was likely under the influence of alcohol when he was brought to the police station. Meanwhile, the woman, a resident of Arekere, posted a video on Instagram claiming that the police did not take strict action and instead showed sympathy towards the suspect, citing his age and intoxicated condition. Deccan Herald quoted the woman saying that she could not tolerate his behaviour as he repeatedly tried to touch her despite her moving away during the journey. After alighting at Majestic, she recorded a video of him roaming around the metro station and allegedly smiling at her. She also admitted to slapping him before approaching security guards. However, a senior officer from the Upparpet police station denied the allegations of lack of action against the suspect. He said the woman was asked to file a formal complaint but her parents intervened and asked her against filing a complaint. “Hence, an NCR was registered and the suspect’s details were noted down," the officer told Deccan Herald.
