Two persons held for stealing car at a petrol bunk in Chennai

Two men who stole a car from a petrol bunk in Vyasarpadi have been arrested by the police. The stolen vehicle has been recovered. Police said the complainant, Melvin Samuel, 36, a resident of Kasturibai Gandhi Nagar, Vyasarpadi, runs a premium car service business. In the early hours of Wednesday, after finishing work, he drove his SUV to a petrol bunk in Vyasarpadi. When he stepped out of the vehicle to make payment, a man attempted to steal the car. When Melvin Samuel tried to stop him, the accused pushed him to the ground and sped away in the vehicle. The accused picked up two accomplices who were standing at a short distance, before fleeing the spot. As Melvin Samuel sustained a leg injury in the incident and was unable to walk, he could not chase the accused. He later lodged a complaint with the Vyasarpadi Police Station. Based on the complaint, the police launched an investigation and arrested two persons who were identified as Surya, 25, of Kodungaiyur and Bharath, 28, of Mathur. A search is on for the other accused. Published - December 26, 2025 03:57 am IST
