Three Tamil Nadu women accused in two chain theft cases held
The Puttur police have arrested three women from Tamil Nadu for allegedly stealing chains of women in two cases. In a complaint filed with the Puttur Town Police, the victim Yamuna, 67, said she went to attend a religious programme at a temple in Kemminje village of Puttur taluk on December 26. She had gone to the temple wearing a 14-gram gold necklace. When she went to wash her hands after having lunch at the temple, three women joined her. By diverting her attention, the three women stole her chain and left the place, the victim alleged. The police registered her complaint under Section 303(2) of Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. Soon after, the police traced and arrested the accused, identified as Sheetal, 25, Kaliyamma, 42, and Mari, 40, on December 26 night. All the three were from Krishnagiri in Tamil Nadu. The Padubidri police of Udupi district found that the three women were involved in another theft case. During a ritual at the Brahma Baidarkala Garadi in Hejamadi on December 24, they stole Sharada Poojary’s gold chain in a similar way. Published - December 27, 2025 11:04 pm IST
