The victim, identified as Geetha, sustained nearly 50 per cent burn injuries and is currently battling for life at Victoria Hospital. According to the police, the accused, Muthu, poured petrol on Geetha and set her ablaze following an argument over her daughter’s marriage. He fled the spot immediately after the attack and is currently absconding. Recommended Stories Geetha, a single mother, ran a provision store in Saneguruvanahalli. Muthu, who owned a tea stall next to her shop, had known the family for several years. Over time, he allegedly began pressuring Geetha to get her daughter married. Police said both Geetha and her daughter refused the proposal. Enraged by the rejection, Muthu allegedly carried out the attack. Locals rushed Geetha to hospital soon after the incident. Doctors said she suffered severe burn injuries and remains in critical condition in the intensive care unit at Victoria Hospital. A case of attempt to murder has been registered at the Basaveshwara Nagar police station. Police teams have been formed to trace and arrest the accused. Public outrage and Demand For Justice The incident has triggered shock and anger among local residents, who have demanded immediate arrest of the accused and strict punishment. Family members and neighbours described Geetha as a hardworking woman who raised her daughter on her own. The attack has once again raised serious concerns about violence against women and the safety of single women living independently. Locals have urged authorities to ensure swift action and stronger measures to protect women. Police have appealed to the public to share any information related to the whereabouts of the accused.
