IndieWire is expanding its presence in the educational space with the addition of The American Pavilion (AmPav), which will now be part of IndieWire’s Future of Filmmaking initiative. AmPav has been an industry leader in film festival student programs for over three decades and will continue to offer its signature programming at the Cannes Film Festival under the AmPav brand in partnership with IndieWire. All other programs, including student experiences at the Venice International Film Festival, SXSW , and SXSW London, will continue under the Future of Filmmaking umbrella. IndieWire’s Future of Filmmaking, a vertical focused on helping a new generation of filmmakers navigate an increasingly uncertain industry, launched in 2025. It includes the In Development newsletter and other editorial content, videos, and live events. AmPav previously hosted IndieWire’s inaugural Future of Filmmaking Summit at Cannes in 2025, and has been a longtime home for IndieWire events at the festival. The partnership will allow IndieWire to host intensives for students and emerging creatives at major film festivals. First up is the SXSW Intensive, which will take place in Austin from March 11 - March 18. Students interested in attending SXSW with IndieWire can apply here until January 28. “IndieWire’s Future of Filmmaking is the ideal home for our programs, which equip young creatives with the tools and experience they need to navigate the entertainment industry,” AmPav SVP Lynne Howard said in a statement. “Our flagship venue, The American Pavilion in Cannes, will continue to offer world-class programming, hospitality, and services to festivalgoers, now enhanced by the media reach and support of IndieWire.” “IndieWire’s Future of Filmmaking is designed to help people understand how creative careers actually function now. Bringing in AmPav is the next step in work we’ve been doing across our reporting, events, and In Development,” said Dana Harris-Bridson, SVP and Editor-in-Chief at IndieWire. “By aligning the IndieWire brand with hands-on, real-world experience, we’re creating new on-ramps for aspiring creatives to learn, connect, and start navigating an industry that looks nothing like it did a generation ago.” “We’re thrilled to continue supporting the next generation of filmmakers and creators while keeping the business informed about the changes reshaping entertainment,” said IndieWire SVP and Publisher James Israel. “Bringing AmPav into the IndieWire and Future of Filmmaking ecosystem allows us to expand our opportunities and reach for our sponsors and partners.” By providing your information, you agree to our Terms of Use and our Privacy Policy .
