Tiruchi Magistrate refuses to remand YouTuber

Tiruchi Magistrate refuses to remand YouTuber

A Judicial Magistrate in Tiruchi on Friday refused to remand YouTuber ‘Savukku’ Shankar in a fresh case. Police had produced him before the Additional Mahila Court seeking to remand him in judicial custody in connection with a case booked by the Tiruchi District Cyber Crime police on a complaint lodged by a woman constable claiming he had spoken in a defamatory way against her and a few other policewomen in his YouTube channel. The case was registered in July. He was escorted by police personnel from the Puzhal Prison in Chennai. The counsel for Mr. Shankar argued that there was no prima facie to remand him and that the new case was stayed by the Supreme Court on an appeal filed by him against a High Court order earlier. After hearing both sides, the Judicial Magistrate refused to remand Shankar and released him on own bond, said sources. Published - December 26, 2025 11:30 pm IST
