YouTube Sketch-Comedy Brand Smosh Signs With WME
Smosh , which touts itself at the internet’s biggest sketch-comedy troupe, has signed with WME for representation in all areas. Founded by Anthony Padilla and Ian Hecox in 2005, Smosh became a pioneer of creator-first entertainment. After the duo split up in 2017, Smosh was sold in 2019 to Rhett & Link’s Mythical Entertainment . Hecox and Padilla acquired control in Smosh in 2023 , with Mythical retaining a minority stake. WME said it will partner with Smosh to further expand its digital presence, scale its live touring operations and drive the company’s strategic crossover into scripted and unscripted TV, film and other areas. Smosh was previously represented by A3 Artists Agency, which was acquired by Gersh in 2024. Popular on Variety Today, Smosh has more than 75 million followers across social platforms and its content has generated over 18 billion YouTube views. Smosh produces a mix of scripted and unscripted content across its flagship channels - Smosh, Smosh Pit and Smosh Games - as well as podcasts, livestreams and interactive live experiences. “Coming off the heels of our 20th year shaping media and comedy, Smosh is growing at an exciting rate through the creation of new, expanded forms of entertainment,” Smosh CEO Alessandra Catanese said in a statement. “WME is the perfect partner to help take us to the next level in best connecting our content with audiences - whether they be fans of Smosh or pure comedy.” Smosh’s next big event is taking place this Friday (Jan. 16): livestreaming improv comedy show “Smosh Hospital,” a ticketed, 90-minute fully improvised parody of scripted medical-drama TV shows. Smosh is also represented by law firm Hansen, Jacobson, Teller et al.
