Things got heated in Minneapolis on Wednesday night when a federal agent shot a man in the leg during an attempted traffic stop. And, this all occurred just 12 miles from where another federal officer fatally shot Renee Nicole Good last week. Crowds quickly gathered near the scene as residents voiced outrage over the latest confrontation involving federal immigration authorities. The man, reportedly in the country illegally, first fled in a vehicle that crashed into a parked car before continuing on foot, leading to a struggle with the officer. During the encounter , two more men allegedly joined in the attack with makeshift weapons, causing the officer to fire in self-defense. Authorities hospitalized the man with a leg wound and took the two other men into custody. Officials Urge Peace As Tensions Boil Over In Minneapolis City officials called for calm as tensions ran high. “ We understand there is anger. We ask the public to remain calm ,” they said, noting the community’ s fear after Good’s death and the federal government’s heightened immigration enforcement in the area. Minnesota Governor Tim Walz spoke to residents shortly after the incident, urging them to document encounters with immigration agents. Walz also called on federal authorities to “ end this occupation.” Crowds Confront ICE Presence, Protests Escalate Rapidly Protesters quickly gathered in the Hawthorne neighborhood, chanting, blowing whistles, and throwing snowballs as law enforcement deployed pepper spray to maintain order. Social media posts from city officials also called for ICE and other federal immigration authorities to leave the state immediately, reiterating support for immigrant and refugee communities. The heightened presence of federal agents - more than three times the size of the Minneapolis Police Department - continues to fuel anger and suspicion throughout the city. With two high-profile shootings within a week, Minneapolis is facing a tense standoff between federal immigration authorities and residents demanding accountability. The FBI continues to investigate Good’s death , while DHS says officers acted in self-defense. As protests swell and questions about federal enforcement grow, the city remains on edge, waiting to see what comes next.
