Police in Brazil have arrested a man who gardaí suspect is connected to the disappearance of Daniel Aruebose, the child who went missing in north Co Dublin more than four years ago. Gardaí updated the case of Daniel Aruebose to a homicide investigation earlier this month In a statement, police in Brazil said the arrest was for deportation purposes. It said the man was in Brazil in an irregular immigration situation. It also said the arrest is the result of international police cooperation between the Federal Police, through the Federal Police Superintendency in Maranhão and the Directorate of International Cooperation, with the participation of the Attachés in Colombia and the United Kingdom. Brazilian police have also said they have been in contact with gardaí. The deportation process is ongoing, police said, adding that the deportee will be returned to Ireland. It is understood gardaí will seek to speak to him on his return. Gardaí have said they are aware of the arrest, which "is a matter for the Brazilian authorities at this time". Daniel Aruebose was last seen alive at his home in The Gallery apartments in Donabate more than four-and-a-half years ago when he was just three years old. Daniel's death and secret burial had been concealed until a check on social welfare payments first raised concerns at the Department of Social Protection for his safety and whereabouts. The department alerted Tusla who contacted the gardaí. They commenced a search of waste ground near his home in Donabate and the skeletal remains of the child were discovered after two-and-a-half weeks. He was formally identified on 17 September. Earlier this week, a woman in her 20s who was arrested on suspicion of murder of Daniel, was released without charge. She was the first person to be detained as part of the investigation which was recently upgraded to a case of homicide.
