A number of charity initiatives are being held across the country today as people celebrate Christmas. Many organisations are holding dinners for the homeless, while people will look to raise money with swims and running events. In Lebanon, members of the 127th Irish Polish Battalion ran the GOAL Mile in Camp Shamrock this morning Amid the Christmas festivities, events are being held across the country from early this morning to aid those in need. People will be getting their steps in as they run or walk the GOAL mile, with the charity holding over 200 events as part of its annual fundraiser. In Lebanon, members of the 127th Irish Polish Battalion ran the GOAL Mile in Camp Shamrock this morning. Thousands of people are also set to brave the colder waters at this time of year for traditional Christmas Day swims, with crowds expected to raise funds at many popular beaches like Ballybunion, Bantry, and Salthill, as well as at the 40 foot in Dublin. Those running or swimming can expect a bright but chilly day, with no rain forecast. At the RDS later, hundreds of volunteers will serve up Christmas dinner to around 500 people at a dinner organised by the Knights of St Columbanus. The annual dinner for the homeless and people in need, which was first held in 1924, will also provide over 5,500 take away meals for those who cannot attend in person.
