‘Springsteen: Deliver Me From Nowhere’ Sets Hulu Release Date (EXCLUSIVE)

By Andrew McGowan; Brent LangVariety

“Springsteen: Deliver Me From Nowhere” will become available to stream on Hulu and Hulu on Disney+ on Jan. 23. The Scott Cooper-directed Bruce Springsteen biopic stars Jeremy Allen White as the legendary singer-songwriter alongside Jeremy Strong as record producer Jon Landau, Paul Walter Hauser as recording engineer Mike Batlan, David Krumholtz as Columbia Records executive Al Teller, Stephen Graham as Bruce’s father Douglas, Gaby Hoffmann as Bruce’s mother Adele and Odessa Young as Bruce’s fictional love interest Faye Romano. The movie tells the story of Springsteen writing and recording his sixth studio album, “Nebraska.” Released in 1982, on the heels of five sensational hard rock albums, “Nebraska” was a bold break from Springsteen’s previous work, embracing a softer, folk sound that he recorded at home on a four-track recorder. The album was controversial, as Springsteen insisted on releasing no singles, not doing any press or a tour and retaining the songs’ unpolished sound, much to the initial chagrin of Columbia Records. Nevertheless, the album sold over a million copies and is today celebrated as a creative high point in Springsteen’s career. “Nebraska” was also deeply personal for Springsteen, and the film explores his struggles with depression while producing the album. Popular on Variety “Deliver Me From Nowhere” had its world premiere at the 52nd Telluride Film Festival in Colorado on Aug. 29. It received a positive reception ahead of other festival screenings leading up to its wide release on Oct. 24. For his portrayal, White was recently honored with a Golden Globes nomination for best actor in a motion picture - drama. 20th Century Studios distributed the film. Cooper produced the film alongside Ellen Goldsmith-Vein, Eric Robinson and Scott Stuber. Hulu is also streaming “Bruce Springsteen: Nebraska Live” and the documentary “Road Diary: Bruce Springsteen and The E Street Band,” making it something of a one-stop shop for fans of the singer.
