Alec Baldwin Says Fatal Shooting On Rust Sets Broke Him: ‘It Took 10 Years Off My Life’ Alec Baldwin also admitted experiencing "suicidal" thoughts in the months after the charges were refiled. Four years ago, actor Alec Baldwin accidentally shot cinematographer Halyna Hutchins on the sets of the movie Rust. The prop gun not only misfired on Halyna and killed her but also wounded director Joel Souza. The incident has had a devastating effect on the actor’s mental, physical, and emotional health. He recently spoke about the ordeal and shared that it “took at least 10 years" off his life. The 67-year-old actor opened up about his struggles on the latest episode of the podcast, Dopey: On the Dark Comedy of Drug Addiction, where he reflected on the period when prosecutors in New Mexico once again filed involuntary manslaughter charges against him in January 2024. “The people I was most concerned about, the people I had the deepest pain for, were my wife and my kids," he said. Alec shares eight children, all under 13, with his wife, Hilaria Baldwin, and a 30-year-old daughter, Ireland, with his ex-wife, Kim Basinger. Alec mentioned that the prolonged legal battle deeply affected every aspect of his life, including his health, finances, and career. “I don’t want to dwell on this, I just want to say that this was very painful for my wife and my family, my sisters and brothers, and so forth, my colleagues. And I can tell you, it broke every nerve in my body, spiritually, financially, work-wise, my career, my wife, my kids, my friends, my health," he added. He shared that the stress stemming from the October 21, 2021, shooting, which killed cinematographer Halyna during a rehearsal, has had lasting consequences on his health. “If I told you what my health conditions have been since October 21st of 2021, it’s taken 10 years off my life. It’s taken at least 10 years off my life," Alec said. The involuntary manslaughter charges against the actor were dismissed with prejudice during his July 2024 trial after a New Mexico judge ruled that prosecutors had failed to disclose evidence related to how live ammunition was brought onto the Rust set. Alec Baldwin Reveals Having “Suicidal" Thoughts During the conversation, Alec also acknowledged experiencing suicidal thoughts in the months after the charges were refiled. He was initially charged in January 2023, but those charges were dropped three months later, only to be reinstated in 2024. “And for me, I remember, I used to lay there in bed and go, ‘Oh God, I can’t wake up another day and have it be the same. It’s the same every day. And I can’t do it.’ But somehow I found the faith in God to, you know,...
