Taeil, now 31, was convicted of aggravated rape and taken into custody following the verdict. Along with the prison term, the court ordered him to complete 40 hours of a sexual violence treatment programme and imposed a five-year ban on employment at institutions connected to children, adolescents, and persons with disabilities. During the appeal proceedings, Taeil’s legal team sought leniency, arguing that he had voluntarily turned himself in. The court, however, declined to reduce the sentence. With the Supreme Court dismissing the final appeal, there are no further legal remedies available. Taeil debuted in the K-pop industry in 2016 as part of NCT U and later became a member of NCT 127, earning recognition for his vocal abilities and contributing to the group’s rise. Following the allegations, SM Entertainment removed him from the group in August 2024.
