Government will procure 900 new buses, says Ramalinga Reddy
Transport Minister Ramalinga Reddy said that Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) will procure 900 new buses. Of these, some buses will be allotted to Mangaluru and Udupi on priority. Speaking after inaugurating the new KSRTC bus stand at Byndoor in Udupi district on December 27, the Minister said that the bidding process for procuring the buses is under way. He added that the Udupi-Mangaluru section attracts a large number of tourists. Since the Mangaluru division of KSRTC is the administrative centre, high priority will be given to sanction buses to the division. Additional buses will be allotted to Udupi, Kundapur, and Byndoor too. He said about 100 electric buses will be allocated to Mangaluru city. The Minister pointed out that Byndoor bus stand has been built well with modern touches, though its construction was delayed. Mr. Reddy, who is also Muzrai Minister, said that there is a demand to form an authority for the development of Kolluru Mookambika Temple. However, only a year has passed since the new management committee was formed. So, necessary steps will be taken to form a new authority after the term of the existing committee ends. “I will finalise the process to name the new Byndoor bus stand as Mookambika bus stand. After the terms of the existing management committee members of Kollur temple end, I will try to form the Kollur Authority at the government level,” he said. Gururaj Gantihole, Byndoor MLA, said a well-equipped bus stand has been built on two acres of land, and eight acres of land are still available for development. The vacant land can be used to create a depot for KSRTC buses, he added. The MLA pointed out that over 35 places in Byndoor Assembly constituency needed bus connectivity to make travel convenient, especially for those living in villages. At the inauguration of Byndoor bus stand, drivers who drove safely were felicitated with silver medals. Published - December 27, 2025 10:49 pm IST
