Navi Mumbai International Airport (NMIA) marked a significant milestone in Indian aviation this Christmas by commencing commercial flight operations on December 25. As passengers began using the new airport, firsthand experiences quickly surfaced on social media, offering glimpses into what it felt like to land at NMIA on its very first day of operations. That first-hand view came from Rahul Srinivas, a traveller from Kerala, who was on IndiGo’s inaugural Ahmedabad-Navi Mumbai flight. Through a series of posts on X (formerly Twitter), Rahul documented his landing, his movement through the airport and his onward journey into Mumbai. He shared a short video from the aircraft that showed how the approach into Navi Mumbai looked different from what many flyers are used to while landing at Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport. “Landing in Mumbai, without having to witness the slums is a welcome sight. The first landing of Indigo’s Ahmedabad Navi Mumbai flight," he wrote. The video showed open land and infrastructure instead of the dense settlements of Dharavi which are often visible during landings at Mumbai’s main airport. You can use it to book cabs. And keep Wi-Fi calling option on. Else the cabbie won’t be able to call you," he wrote. He also explained the layout for onward travel. According to his post, travellers need to go one level down after exiting the terminal to reach public transport facilities.
