Drunk driver drags motorcycle for half a kilometre in serial accident on ORR
In a serial accident on Christmas Eve, a 38-year-old man allegedly rammed into two cars and multiple motorcycles and dragged a Royal Enfield, lodged under his car, for about half a kilometre on the Outer Ring Road in the western part of Bengaluru. The motorcyclist, Rohith S., 32, suffered injuries to his chest, hands, and legs, while others escaped unhurt. The accused, Srinivasa K.V., 38, was allegedly driving under the influence of alcohol, police said. He was chased down by other commuters and assaulted before being handed over to the police, an investigator told The Hindu . According to the FIR, the incident occurred around 7.15 p.m. on Wednesday (December 24) near the Sumanahalli flyover, when Rohith was returning home. Rohith told the police that Srinivasa, driving a SUV rammed into his Royal Enfield while he was riding towards Nagarabhavi Circle. The impact flung Rohith onto the road, while his motorcycle got lodged under the front of the car. A senior police officer confirmed that Srinivasa did not stop and dragged the motorcycle for about half a kilometre. “Midway, he crashed into two more vehicles, prompting other commuters to chase and intercept him,” the officer said. When intercepted, Srinivasa allegedly refused to step out of the car and locked himself inside. An agitated crowd broke a window, pulled him out, assaulted him, before handing him over to the police. A purported video of the accident has captured the entire sequence of events. Kamakshipalya police have booked Srinivasa under Sections 281 (rash driving on a public way) and 125(a) (act endangering life or personal safety of others) of Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023. Police have also booked him for drunk driving, seized his car, and said they will recommend cancellation of his driving licence. As the offences are bailable, he is currently out on bail.
