Questions raised over use of LPG cylinders by roadside fast food outlets

Questions raised over use of LPG cylinders by roadside fast food outlets

After a helium cylinder used for filling gas into balloons recently exploded near Mysuru palace and claimed three lives in Mysuru, questions have been raised over the safety of roadside fast food outlets using LPG cylinders. Mysuru Hotel Owners’ Association president C. Narayanaya Gowda, in a statement here, has questioned the use of LPG cylinders on roadsides without any safety measures and said the issue was “deeply troubling” in the wake of the incident. He pointed out that fast food outlets were mushrooming everywhere while the hotel industry, which pays building rent, taxes and salaries, has taken a severe hit. Though there is no objection to people engaging in business activities for their livelihood, such opportunities should be given only to those who comply with the norms, said Mr. Gowda. He urged the Mysuru City Corporation and city police officials to jointly take all necessary steps to ensure public safety. He has also sought the creation of food zones in east, west, central, north and south areas of Mysuru city by giving safety the top priority. Published - December 27, 2025 07:59 pm IST
