Kochi Mayor was chosen strictly in accordance with KPCC guidelines, says Satheesan
Leader of the Opposition V.D. Satheesan said his involvement in the Kochi Corporation election ended with victory for the United Democratic Front, and that the Mayor was selected strictly in accordance with Kerala Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) guidelines. Addressing the media here on Friday (December 26, 2025), Mr. Satheesan pointed out that even before the KPCC guidelines were made public, some media outlets had already speculated on who the Mayor would be. “How many people can you decide as mayors? Only one person can be made Mayor,” he said. He explained that the UDF had announced mayoral candidates in advance only in Thiruvananthapuram and Kollam. In all other local bodies, the selection was based on the KPCC circular. In Thrissur too, the Mayor was chosen after seeking the opinion of councillors, and no one was imposed from above. Mr. Satheesan further emphasised that clear instructions had been issued against any association with the BJP, CPI(M), or the SDPI. If anyone were to win with the support of these parties, they were directed to resign immediately. “This is a political decision of the UDF,” he said. Published - December 26, 2025 08:22 pm IST
