Trending on Billboard After The Beatles broke up in 1970, Paul McCartney released two solo albums, but then sought to get back into a band setting. The result was Wings , which, following a slightly rocky start, became a phenomenally successful rock band during its 10-year run. With hits like âBand on the Run,â âMy Love,â âJetâ and âLive and Let Die,â Wings took five albums to No. 1 on the Billboard 200 before disbanding in 1981. Man on the Run , a new documentary directed by Academy Award-winning director Morgan Neville, chronicles McCartneyâs journey in forming Wings with his wife Linda and features previously unseen and rare archival footage. In the trailer for the documentary, McCartney reveals the motivation behind forming Wings: âIt was about trying to do something different,â he says. âWhen we started Wings, it was about freedom.â The groupâs music wasnât well-received when it was first released, leading McCartney to declare, âIâm going to make the best record youâve ever heard.â Within years, the band was filling stadiums and routinely topping the charts. McCartney also addresses his relationship with John Lennon, saying they were âgrowing apart,â by the time The Beatles split, âBut we loved each other all our lives.â The documentary premieres on Amazonâs Prime Video on Feb. 27 and includes new interviews with McCartney, as well as archival footage of Ringo Starr, Lennon, George Harrison and Linda McCartney, among others. The film follows McCartneyâs book, Wings: The Story of a Band on the Run , which came out in November, as well as the self-titled collection Wings , which was released on limited-edition vinyl and on streaming outlets.
