Seven accused in Hangal gang rape externed from Haveri district

The Assistant Commissioner of Savanur Shubham Shukla has issued an externment order against seven prime accused in the Hangal gang-rape case from Haveri district to Yadgir district for a period of one year. The order follows a petition filed by the Superintendent of Police in the Assistant Commissioner’s court seeking externment of the accused from the district, in the wake of developments that seemed to affect law and order in the district. Consequently, the Assistant Commissioner issued the order externing the accused Aftab Chandankatte, Madarsab Mandakki, Mohammed Sadiq Agasimani, Shoeb Mulla, Samiulla Lalnavar, Tousif Choti and Riyaz Savikeri. The accused have been directed to appear before the Hunasagi Police every day and inform the station staff when they are appearing before court in pending cases. A case of gang rape of a woman in Akki Alur was registered on January 11, 2024 and subsequently, the police arrested the seven men. These men were later released on bail from prison. On being released, the accused returned to their native place in an open jeep to a grand welcome by some, resulting in public outrage. Published - December 22, 2025 08:54 pm IST
