Pep Puts City On The Scales: No Festive Feasts As Title Race Heats Up Pep Guardiola keeps Manchester City disciplined over Christmas, leading to a 3-0 win over West Ham. Pep Guardiola isn’t one for festive indulgence - at least not where his players are concerned. Manchester City’s squad were weighed before their Christmas break and warned not to overdo the food and drink, with Guardiola demanding peak fitness as the Premier League title race tightens. Recommended Stories City returned from the festivities in perfect shape, cruising past West Ham 3-0 to remain just two points behind leaders Arsenal and extending their winning run to seven matches in all competitions. Guardiola admitted he wasn’t quite as disciplined himself, joking that he had added “four or five kilos" over Christmas. His players, however, were given no such licence. “They have been incredibly disciplined for 10 years," Guardiola said. “We have standards as a club. Everybody knows exactly what they have to do." City can move back to the top of the table with victory away at Nottingham Forest in Saturday’s early kick-off, before Arsenal host Brighton later in the day. Despite last season’s injury struggles, Guardiola praised his squad’s professionalism and commitment, insisting their mentality has not wavered during another multi-front campaign. “We are in the Premier League, the Champions League, the Carabao Cup semi-finals and the FA Cup is coming," he said. “Some important players are coming back. We go step by step." Saturday’s trip to the City Ground carries added emotion following the death of Forest legend John Robertson on Christmas Day. The former Scotland winger was instrumental in Forest’s back-to-back European Cup triumphs under Brian Clough. “Forest away has always been tough," Guardiola said. “With the history, the crowd, and now the loss of such an important person, it will be even more difficult." While Forest sit just five points above the relegation zone, Guardiola warned against complacency, calling them “a really, really good side".
