Jemimah Rodrigues Hits Back At Smriti Mandhana's 'Bicep' Trolls
Jemimah Rodrigues Hits Back At Smriti Mandhana's 'Bicep' Trolls Jemimah Rodrigues hit back at Smriti Mandhana's 'bicep' trolls with a subtle dig, highlighting the vice-captain's stunning achievements. India top-order batter Jemimah Rodrigues took a not-so-subtle dig at teammate Smriti Mandhana’s trolls after the team beat Sri Lanka in the first of the five-T20I series in Vizag. Rodrigues took to Instagram to share the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI)’s post about Mandhana’s latest achievement - becoming the first Indian woman to cross 4,000 runs in T20 internationals. She captioned it ‘She’s my sister!’ while adding ‘Also crazy biceps’. Recommended Stories It was a clear aim at the trolls who were commenting on Madhana’s arms on social media. The white-ball vice-captain appeared in an event recently, and photos - some edited - were widely circulated with malice. It’s not new for female atheletes to be maligned for their sporty bodies by faceless engagement-seakers on X. The best have unfortunately gone through it, and Mandhana, whose improved upper-body strength has earned India countless laurels, is only the latest. Mandhana achieved the feat during her knock of 25 (25) in the run-chase of 122 against the Lankans. She is only the second player overall to reach the milestone, following New Zealand great Suzie Bates. What sets Mandhana’s achievement apart is the pace at which she got there. She reached 4,000 runs in just 3,227 balls, comfortably eclipsing Bates’ previous record, underlining the impact and intent behind her scoring. Mandhana ended the match with 4,006 T20I runs, maintaining a clear lead over her Indian contemporaries, including captain Harmanpreet Kaur, while further strengthening her reputation as India’s most consistent batter across formats. India opened the series with a commanding eight-wicket victory. Opting to bowl first, India kept Sri Lanka to 121 for six, with the visitors failing to make full use of favourable batting conditions despite the early presence of dew. Opener Vishmi Gunaratne top-scored with 39, while Hasini Perera and Harshitha Samarawickrama chipped in with modest contributions. India’s bowlers maintained discipline through the middle overs, applying consistent pressure and preventing a late surge. The target was overhauled comfortably with 32 balls remaining. Rodrigues starred in the chase with a fluent unbeaten 69 off 44 deliveries, anchoring the innings and striking the ball with authority. She added key partnerships of 54 with Mandhana and an unbroken 55-run stand with captain Harmanpreet Kaur to seal the win. Click here to add News18 as your preferred news source on Google.
