Delhi Police tightens security ahead of year-end festivities
The Delhi police have deployed over 20,000 personnel, including traffic and paramilitary staff, across the city and border areas in view of Christmas and New Year’s celebrations, an officer said on Tuesday. After last month’s blast near the Red Fort that claimed at least 15 lives, police have zeroed in on crowded hotspots, stationing extra troops and Quick Response Teams to keep the city vigilant. Security is tighter at entry points from Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, and Rajasthan, with more pickets in place. The officer also said special checks are ongoing for illegal stays, drunk or reckless driving, and stunt biking. Areas such as Connaught Place, Hauz Khas, India Gate, and other busy spots, including markets, malls, bus stands, and railway stations, will have stricter checks. The officer said vehicles without valid permits will be impounded, and SHOs have been tasked with patrolling. The police will also ensure smooth traffic flow, besides keeping a check on hooliganism.
