Teen girl adds poison to parents' dinners after being banned from seeing boyfriend A 17-year-old girl from Brazil confessed to putting a toxic substance, normally used for killing rodents, into the pre-prepared meals of her mum, dad and cousin A teenage girl has been detained by police for allegedly poisoning food prepared for her parents and cousin - all because she was banned from seeing a boyfriend . The 17-year-old girl reportedly confessed to adding a toxic substance known as chumbinho to three meals prepared by her mum in the city of Nova Serrana in the Brazilian state of Minas Gerais on January 7. The food was intended for her mum, 35, her dad, 41, and her cousin, 36, according to the country's Military Police. It transpired that the young girl had an argument with her parents before carrying out the disturbing act. Officers said the poison is typically intended to kill rodents. Major Renato Geraldo da Silva, a spokesperson for the Military Police, said: “The family was disapproving of her romantic relationship, and she then took the three meals prepared every night by the mother for herself, the father and the cousin, and added a toxic substance intended to kill rodents.” He added: “She said the container of the poison was already inside the house and spoke about the argument that happened during the early hours because she left without consent.” Police said small black granules believed to be the poison were found mixed into the meals. The cousin began eating one of the meals but noticed an unusual texture and stopped consuming the food. Major Renato went on: “He said he was eating the meal, noticed a different texture, spoke to his uncle and the uncle then spoke to his wife, saying there was something altered in the food.” He then alerted the girl’s parents, who did not eat their meals. The cousin later sought medical attention, underwent gastric lavage, and remained under observation with a stable clinical condition. A senior police officer said the teenager told officers she acted out of anger because her parents disapproved of a romantic relationship. Police said the argument occurred during the early hours after the girl left the house without parental consent. Officers said the poison container was already inside the family home before the incident. Forensic teams attended the property and seized the three meals, including one that remained intact. Samples of the food and the substance were collected for laboratory analysis to confirm the composition of the poison. Civil Police confirmed the detention and said the case remains under investigation. Reports said the girl, not named, was taken to the Civil Police station accompanied by her legal representative and remains at the disposal of the justice system.
