Puducherry CM Rangasamy announces hike in assistance to persons with disabilities
Puducherry Chief Minister N. Rangasamy on Tuesday (December 23, 2025) announced that the monthly assistance given to persons with disabilities in the Union Territory (UT) would be hiked from ₹3,000 to ₹3,500 and from ₹4,800 to ₹5,500, depending upon the nature of their disability. Speaking at the International Day of Persons with Disabilities, Mr. Rangasamy said the disbursement of cash in lieu of free rice would also be increased to ₹800 per month, while the festival advance would be hiked from ₹500 to ₹750. A total of 21,539 persons with disabilities will benefit, he said. The Puducherry government has allocated ₹25 lakh through the Department of Social Welfare for providing assistance to sportspersons with disabilities participating in events. A dedicated sports ground for persons with disabilities would soon be set up in Puducherry. The Puducherry government has been implementing various financial assistance programmes for persons with disabilities. “We will assess the social security schemes being implemented in Andhra Pradesh and emulate them with further improvements.
