Demand for new railway line between Belagavi and Bagalkot districts

Members of the Kudachi Bagalkot railway line agitation committee have begun an agitation demanding swift work on the planned railway line connecting Belagavi and Bagalkot districts. Leaders of several parties met the protestors led by Qutbuddin Khaji, president of the committee. MP Priyanka Jarkiholi visited the protest site in Kudachi and met the protestors. The committee members submitted a memorandum to the Union government through the MP. Their demands include a railway line starting from the Kudachi side, upgrading the railway station, and renaming it as Hazrat Maa Saheb Kudachi junction, among others. She said she will take up the issue with the Minister of Railways. Shivalingeshwar Swami of Durdundeshwar Math, leaders like Laxmanrao Chingle and Amit Ghatage and others were present. Meanwhile, MP Jagadish Shettar said that the Railways Department had agreed to revive a proposal to build a railway line between Lokaopur in Bagalkot district to Dharwad, via places like Saundatti and Ramdurg. The project was shelved earlier. A fresh traffic and feasibility study is being taken up. Once the report is submitted, it will be submitted to the Railway board for approval, Mr. Shettar said.
