A Turkish Airlines flight made an emergency landing in Barcelona on Thursday after a passenger triggered a “bomb alert” by creating a Wi-Fi network name containing a bomb threat, an airline official stated. As the flight was approaching its destination at Barcelona-El Prat Airport, it was detected that a passenger established an in-flight internet access point and set the network name to include a bomb threat,” the Turkish airlines spokesperson, Yahya Üstün, said, AP reported. Yahya added that the flight crew ensured a safe landing for the plane and thereafter local authorities boarded the plane to conduct a full inspection. The Spanish officials conducted a thorough inspection of the flight but no explosive devices or hazardous material was found. In another post, the Turkish airlines spokesperson said, “Necessary security searches were carried out by the relevant country’s authorities, and no adverse findings were detected.” The airline in a statement said that it would operate the return flight normally.
