
Tish Cyrus Details āSelf-Medicatingā During Billy Ray Cyrus Breakup
It took Tish Cyrus years to process her divorce with Billy Ray Cyrus . Nearly four years after Miley Cyrus ā parents-who also share kids Brandi Cyrus , 37, Trace Cyrus , 35, Braison Cyrus , 30, and Noah Cyrus, 24-filed for divorce in 2022, the Sorry Weāre Cyrus host detailed the difficult chapter that followed. āAnything thatās happened Iām kind of like, āWell thatās life, just keep it moving,āā Tish explained during a Jan. 14 appearance on The Squeeze podcast . āIād been in this relationship since I was 23 or 24 so, again, I kept it moving.ā However, Tish noted that just two years before her divorce from Billy Ray-who is also dad to Christopher Cody Cyrus , 32, with ex Luckey -she lost her mom Loretta Jean Palmer Finley , to whom sheād been āvery close." But the 58-year-old barely had time to process that loss before her marriage āstarted falling apart.ā āTwo of the most tragic things in my life that happened-I did not process or even stop to really think about,ā Tish shared. āIāve been very open that I was a major weed smoker. For that, because Iāve always had a little bit of anxiety, that was almost like medicine for me.ā Indeed, Tish-who tied the knot with Dominic Purcell in 2023, whom she met shortly after her split with Billy-admitted she was āself-medicating in some ways,ā noting, āI didnāt even realize that I was doing it for that reason.ā And when she finally cut cannabis out of her system in 2024, all of her suppressed emotions came flooding back in. āI do think it kind of numbed all that pain and then I stopped smoking and all of a sudden a week later, Iām just in full-on anxiety to the point of not functioning,ā Tish recalled. āIt was the roughest thing Iād ever gone through.ā Over a year later, Tish explained that sheās ājust nowā learning how to cope with her anxiety. āIām so much better,ā she emphasized. āLike, I was not functioning for that year, I was just trying to survive.
