Outward remittances under LRS flat at $2.36 billion
Outward remittances under the Liberalised Remittance Scheme (LRS) were largely stable in October at $2.36 billion versus $2.40 billion a year ago. Indians spend $1.35 billion on travel and $163 million on studying abroad in October. Maximum yearly increase is seen in investments in equity and debt, standing at $273 million in October from $149 million a year ago, while remittances for studies abroad has fallen to $163 million from $221 million a year ago. The LRS, introduced by the Reserve Bank of India , permits resident individuals to remit funds abroad for specific current and capital account transactions, subject to an annual limit.
