The Best Hotels on the Amalfi Coast There's a reason the Amalfi Coast is renowned around the world: This stretch of Italian coastline is a slice of paradise on earth. From peaceful villas perched above the coast in Ravello to see-and-be-seen hotels in Positano , there are so many excellent places to rest and retreat to in this picturesque region. The center was the aristocratic Sersale family’s summer villa in Positano. Four siblings opened the house to guests in 1951 with eight rooms and a large terrace facing the sea. Franco Sersale was responsible for a major expansion and refurbishment in the 1990s; he was not only a passionate art collector but also an inveterate world traveler andphotographer. Book the white, cream, and silver Diaghilev suite, which has double doors that open onto a small balcony with the bay of Positano at your feet. The price is hardly chump change, but it includes all drinks, which means cocktails any time you want them in wafer-thin Murano glasses. Wander into the kitchen, and the chef will whip you up whatever you fancy whenever you fancy it, using fresh produce from Treville’s gardens. —N.S.Book Now at Booking.comBook Now at Expedia Courtesy Il San Pietro di PositanohotelIl San Pietro di PositanoArrow$$$ |Gold List 2018, 2020Readers' Choice Awards 2017, 2018, 2019, 2020, 2021, 2022, 2023, 2024A tribute to the vision and folly of its creator, Il San Pietro di Positano burrows into a cliff, with an elevator plunging down to the beach via a shaft hacked out of rock. It’s the ultimateAmalfi Coastcocoon, made all the more attractive by delicious but not overly fancy seasonal food. It’s no mystery why the international glitterati have flocked here since the hotel's opening in 1970—the village’s steep, narrow stone streets and breathtakingly beautiful blue waters really are the stuff of dreams.
