MVD issue notices to online firms over safety risks posed by ‘10-minute delivery’ service
The Motor Vehicles Department (MVD) has issued show-cause notices to online food aggregate companies in Ernakulam over concerns that their “10-minute delivery” service is violating road safety norms. Action has been taken against firms found to have breached safety standards. It was found that due to the intense pressure from companies to deliver goods within a fixed time, delivery agents were driving at excessive speeds and recklessly. Signal violations, improper lane changes, and riding without safety gear have become common among riders, posing serious accident risks. The intervention comes in the backdrop of reports of two-wheelers involved in such services meeting with accidents and even fatalities in different parts of the State. The notice has asked companies to explain how they can ensure that ultra-fast delivery systems do not compromise road safety, and what measures have been adopted to safeguard riders. Transport Commissioner Nagaraju Chakilam warned that fast-delivery systems must be reviewed with road safety in mind, and strict action will follow if violations continue. The Ernakulam Enforcement Regional Transport Officer said that inspections related to this issue will be intensified in the coming days. Published - December 27, 2025 06:47 pm IST
