Two more arrested in spurious drugs case
Days after an inter-State racket involved in the manufacture, repackaging and sale of spurious medicines was busted and three persons were arrested, two other members of the gang were nabbed on Monday, the police said. Anil Singh Rawat, 46, and Rahul Agarwal, 31, were arrested for allegedly supplying wrapping boxes for fake skin ointments, one of which is used to treat conditions such as psoriasis. A police team raided a printing press on Rama Road and found the unit used in the manufacture of packaging material, said a senior officer.. A case has been registered for cheating, forgery and dishonesty under Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita alongside relevant sections of the Drugs & Cosmetics Act, 1940. The information was revealed during the interrogation of persons previously arrested in the case - Shree Ram, Gaurav Bhagat and Parmod Kumar Gupta. “Anil [Singh Rawat] was running a printing press at Rama Road from where printed wrapping boxes were supplied to co-accused Shree Ram for use in the manufacture and sale of illegal spurious ointment tubes. Rahul Agarwal, a resident of Nangli Mor, placed orders for printed wrapping boxes from another printing press, Khatu Shyam Printers, also at Rama Road. Further investigation is in progress to identify and apprehend both backward and forward linkages, including sources of raw materials and the distribution network, to completely dismantle the entire spurious medicine and fake cosmetic supply chain,” said Deputy Commissioner of Police, Crime Branch, Aditya Gautam.
