His comments came in the wake of an accident involving a truck and a sleeper bus in Chitradurga district, which claimed the lives of six persons . “It is very disturbing that buses catching fire has become common. The government should act strongly against each and every long-route bus, that is a sleeper, semi-sleeper and only-sitting, run by private operators or the State-owned transport undertakings, like KSRTC. If any bus is found violating safety protocols, their licence should be cancelled and their owners should be jailed. If the State Government shows leniency against such offenders, it will continue to sacrifice the safety of commuters,’’ he told reporters in Vijayapura on December 25.
