'What A Waste Of Talent'! England Legend Critiques Harry Brook, Pleads: 'Nobody Wants To Rein...' Sir Geoffrey Boycott urges Harry Brook to improve shot selection, urges Ben Stokes for No 3 role, and notes Pat Cummins' absence boosts Joe Root's chances against Australia. Former England captain Sir Geoffrey Boycott has once again delivered a brutally honest assessment of England’s batting, this time focusing on vice-captain Harry Brook. Writing in his Telegraph column, Boycott criticised Brook’s approach at the crease, arguing that the immensely talented batter has been throwing away his wicket and failing to convert promising starts into significant contributions. While acknowledging Brook’s flair and entertainment value, Boycott suggested that his current method has been more detrimental than beneficial at the highest level. Boycott clarified that he was not suggesting Brook abandon his natural attacking instincts. Instead, he felt the Yorkshireman needed to develop better judgement and understand when to rein himself in, particularly in challenging conditions and against high-quality bowling attacks. In Boycott’s view, Brook has too often been responsible for his own dismissals rather than being genuinely outplayed. Recommended Stories “What can you say to Harry Brook that will make him listen? He bats as if it is T20. The greatest run-scorer of any era was Don Bradman. He regularly scored faster than any other batsman in history. There have been occasional innings from various batsmen who scored faster in one-off innings but Bradman did it every time he played." “Harry, nobody wants to rein you in or stop you playing your strokes because you are “box office" and you can win matches, but so far you flatter and then get yourself out. What a waste of talent! Have a think how many times the bowlers bowl you out with a good ’un and how many times you give it away. Take note from the greatest ever batsman and do not give your wicket away. You could be the greatest batsman of this generation and help England become the best team in the world," Boycott wrote in his Telegraph column. Stokes Move Up Beyond Brook, Boycott also offered his views on England’s team composition for the Boxing Day Test against Australia. He suggested a significant reshuffle in the batting order, advocating for captain Ben Stokes to move up to number three. According to Boycott, Stokes has the temperament, experience, and resilience required to handle the pressure of early exposure to the new ball, something he feels would be unfair to ask of the inexperienced Jacob Bethell, who has come into the side for Ollie Pope. “Ben Stokes should bat No 3. At times, he has shown great discipline, concentration and bloody-mindedness against the seamers. Yes, facing the new ball early on will be tougher than at No 6, but he has form and experience, rather than asking a young kid to do it. Ben is blocking well but he needs to find a happy medium to keep the scoreboard ticking over as well," he wrote. Boycott also weighed...
