Russia threatens ânuclear end of the worldâ if Trump follows through on promise
Russia has threatened to bring about the "end of the world " if Donald Trump follows through on his promise to take Greenland. The âeccentricâ US president wants to position his atomic strike forces on the worldâs largest island to secure nuclear superiority over Russia and China , according to Dmitry Rogozin. Trump previously said he would take Greenland "one way or the other". Rogozin is a Putin-backing senator for part of occupied Ukraine , a former deputy prime minister, ex-head of the Russian Space Agency, and once the Kremlinâs representative at NATO headquarters in Brussels. A war-fanatic, he also runs a military drone unit targeting Ukrainians on the frontline. Now he is claiming that Trump's plans for Greenland will lead to Armageddon. The land grab is linked to the US scheme for a âGolden Domeâ missile defence system âin which space, AI, and a layered architecture merge into a single systemâ, he alleged. âOrbital sensors, ground interceptors, decision-making algorithms - all this requires advantageous geography. Greenland, with its Arctic position, proximity to Russia, and convenience for northern ICBM trajectories, fits perfectly into this architecture.â In making a grab for island, Trump is "not acting erratically but fulfilling the Pentagon's will - to stop negotiating with European allies and wiping their noses, to seize Greenland by force and turn it into a platform for deploying means of both nuclear attack and missile defence interception of Russian ICBMs", he said. âThis is the dismantling of the entire system of strategic stability in the world that has prevented the use of nuclear weapons since 1945.â Rogozin - closely involved in developing Russiaâs new Sarmat, or Satan-2, apocalypse 208-ton intercontinental silo-launched 15,880mph nuclear missile, the size of a 14-storey tower block - warned this would put the world on the brink. âIn real life, this can only be tested once, but it is not certain that anyone will be left to prepare reports afterwards,â he said. âThis is the problem: the US, led by an eccentric, may convince themselves that, finally, thanks to the annexation of Greenland and the deployment there of components of the command and control system for strategic offensive weapons, they have achieved nuclear superiority over Russia and China... This will be the beginning of the end of the world.â Rogozin went on: âIn the 1960s, the Pentagon already tried to turn Greenland into an under-ice missile foothold - the Iceworm project envisaged placing hundreds of ICBMs in a network of tunnels under the glacier... The distances to key cities in the European part of the USSR made the island an ideal tool for nuclear pressure: flight time - just minutes. âThe project then failed not for political but geological reasons - the ice turned out to be alive, mobile, and dangerous for the infrastructure of ice missile silos... But technology has advanced far.â A future nuclear WW3 will be in the Arctic, he said. âThe Arctic is the fastest route for delivering nuclear warheads by missiles from the US...
