Gracie Abrams, Aaron Dessner & Bon Iver Release Song to Help End Gun Violence: âThe World Is Hurtingâ
Trending on Billboard The most wonderful time of the year was recently marred by two deadly mass shootings: the Dec. 13 shooting at Brown University that killed two students and injured nine others, and the Dec. 14 shooting at Australiaâs Bondi Beach that killed 15 and injured more than 40 others at a Hanukkah celebration. Now, Gracie Abrams , Aaron Dessner and Bon Iver are releasing a song to support Everytown , a non-profit that works to end gun violence. In the emotional track titled âSold Out,â Abrams sings in part: âThe system works and we all stay terrified/ What are we doing here, think we got sold out/ Looks like another year without a way out.â The song is available on Bandcamp for $5. âWe made this song last year in the wake of a school shooting. We were reminded of it this week as our hearts were broken yet again. Itâs a sad one to share during the holidays, but the world is hurting and we shouldnât look away,â the three musicians said in a joint statement. âWe are proud to support Everytown, an organization dedicated to ending gun violence in America. We are releasing this song to raise awareness of their mission of reducing gun violence. Please visit their website for more information on the unbelievable work they do. Sending so much love to you all.â Dessner also shared Abramsâ Instagram post about the song in his Stories, and shared his appreciation for her. âthank you @gracieabrams for finding a way to express our profound collective grief and create action @everytown,â he wrote. Grammy-nominated Abrams has not been shy about speaking out when it comes to issues close to her heart. After news broke of the Brown University and Bondi Beach shootings, and that Rob Reiner and wife Michele Reiner were found Dec. 15 murdered in their home, the singer shared a statement slamming Donald Trump âs reaction to recent tragic incidents. âWithin 24 hours of the most unimaginable tragedy a family can endure, we see the President yet again reveal the most poisonous and vile narcissism maybe in the history of humanity,â she wrote at the time of the president, who had insulted the beloved director after news of his death by claiming Reiner suffered from âa mind crippling disease known as TRUMP DERANGEMENT SYNDROMEâ in a Truth Social post. âIndefensible.â âIt is getting harder to find the words to describe the pain in the world,â she continued. âI am lighting a candle for everybody who is hurting.â Listen to a clip of âSold Outâ below:
