CM to participate in CWC meeting today, likely to seek high command’s nod for Cabinet reshuffle

CM to participate in CWC meeting today, likely to seek high command’s nod for Cabinet reshuffle

As uncertainties over a possible change of Chief Minister in Karnataka continued to dominate political discourse, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah reached New Delhi to participate in the Congress Working Committee (CWC) meeting on December 27. “Yes, I am going to the CWC meeting,” the Chief Minister said in reply to a question by mediapersons in Davanagere on Friday. Deputy Chief Minister and KPCC chief D K Shivakumar has not been invited to the CWC meeting. However, Mr. Shivakumar met AICC chief Mallikarjun Kharge at the latter’s residence in Bengaluru on Thursday and reportedly discussed the political issues. Sources in the Congress said that the CWC meeting is unlikely to take up the leadership change issue. However, the issue could be discussed with central leaders of the party either before or after the CWC meeting. As speculation over power-sharing for the Chief Minister’s post continued, sources maintained that the two leaders were engaged in “mind games” and seeking publicity. While Mr. Kharge maintained that the matter should be resolved at the local level, Mr. Siddaramaiah has strongly advocated that he would continue in the post till the party high command’s blessings are with him. Mr. Shivakumar downplayed the leadership change issue and said he would continue to be the loyal party worker. Meanwhile, it is being speculated that the Chief Minister might place a request on appointment of a new KPCC president if he gets an “appropriate time and opportunity” to discuss the issue with Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi. Loyalists of the Chief Minister have been seeking replacement of Mr. Shivakumar from the post of the KPCC president for the past few months. The Chief Minister is also likely to seek the party high command’s nod for the State Cabinet reshuffle, which is long overdue. Mr. Siddaramaiah has been mentioning that he will undertake a Cabinet reshuffle if the party’s central leaders clear the proposal. Meanwhile, Congress MP for Koppal K Rajashekar Basavaraj Hitnal on Friday said Mr. Siddaramaiah would continue in the post for the full five-year term. The electorate voted for the party for the five-year term, and the Chief Minister had implemented guarantee schemes as promised in the poll manifesto, he said. In another development in Bengaluru, supporters of Housing Minister B.Z. Zameer Ahmed have installed posters and banners in different localities mentioning his name as “upcoming DCM”. Besides extending Christmas and New Year’s greetings, banners mentioned “upcoming DCM” Zameer Ahmed, in a move to send a message to the party high command in the wake of the pending State Cabinet reshuffle.
