Motorola Edge 70 Review: Meaningful innovation is not always loud

Motorola Edge 70 Review: Meaningful innovation is not always loud

When it comes to delivering high-end features at accessible prices, Motorola has been on a roll. From a stylus under ₹25,000 ( the Motorola Edge 60 Stylus ) to now launching one of the thinnest smartphones in the mid-budget segment, Motorola seems to be focused on setting trends rather than following them. While Apple and Samsung made plenty of noise around their ultra-thin flagships , Motorola chose a quieter route. The Edge 70 arrives without much fanfare, letting its design and specs do the talking. At ₹29,999, the device arrives in a segment packed with capable contenders like the OnePlus Nord 5 and Vivo V60. So, how does this ultra-thin smartphone hold its ground in a thickly populated market? Design The Motorola Edge 70 immediately stands out for how impossibly slim and light it feels. Just 5.99mm thick and weighing only 159 grams, it sits comfortably in the “featherweight” category among premium mid-range phones. By comparison, Apple’s iPhone Air measures 5.64 mm with a 165 g weight, and the Samsung Galaxy S25 Edge comes in at 5.8mm and about 163 grams ; ultra-thin, but slightly different in their approach to thin-phone engineering. What makes Motorola’s achievement impressive is that it manages this without shrinking the battery or compromising durability. The phone feels almost weightless in hand, making prolonged usage comfortable, whether for scrolling, gaming, or shooting photos. Motorola uses brushed aircraft-grade aluminium for the frame, paired with a refined nylon-inspired texture at the back. The craftsmanship feels deliberate and premium. Adding to this are three Pantone-curated colour options, each offering a distinct personality. Pantone Bronze Green and Gadget Grey come with a leather-inspired tactile finish that feels refined and understated, while Pantone Lily Pad introduces a bold fabric-like texture that adds character without flashiness. Compared to the glass-heavy OnePlus Nord 5 and the glossy finish on the Vivo V60, the Edge 70’s vegan leather treatment offers better grip and resists smudges more effectively. The design language remains consistent with the Edge series, with gently curved edges, clean camera housing, and a balanced weight distribution. Buttons and ports follow Motorola’s familiar placement, making the transition easy for existing users. Despite its slim frame, the Edge 70 brings serious durability credentials. It carries IP68 and IP69 ratings and has passed MIL-STD-810H military-grade tests. This level of protection is rare in this category and gives it a clear edge over both the Nord 5 and Vivo V60, neither of which match this blend of thinness and ruggedness. Display The Motorola Edge 70 features a 6.7-inch Super HD Extreme AMOLED display with Pantone Validation and Pantone SkinTone Validation. Colour accuracy is the defining trait here, with true-to-life colours and natural skin tones making a visible difference while watching films, editing photos, or browsing social media. The near bezel-less design results in a 94.6% screen-to-body ratio, creating a deeply immersive viewing experience. Brightness is another area where the Edge 70 pulls ahead. With a peak brightness of 4,500 nits and 1,400 nits in high brightness...
