TikToker Says United Healthcare DENIED Her Surgery 4 Hours Before It Was Supposed To Start -- As She's Literally In The Hospital And Ready To Go! WTF?!
One woman was ready to head into surgery last week when her insurance company suddenly threw a major wrench in the plans and denied it - hours before it was supposed to begin! A TikToker who goes by @westcoastwild_ posted a video on Saturday of herself in a hospital bed, explaining that she was supposed to undergo a âradical hysterectomyâ years after her stage four endometriosis and frozen pelvis diagnosis. Sheâs already dressed in a hospital gown and cap. Sheâs hooked up to an IV. The woman was all set to go at that point, and all she shouldâve had to do was remain calm, relax, and wait for the operation to begin at 12:05. Four hours before, the insurance company DENIED her surgery! According to the content creator, her doctor âsent in the prior auth over three weeks ago, as well as a ton of notes about why this is medically necessary.â The surgeon did everything right, but United Healthcare allegedly waited until the eleventh hour to determine that her procedure wasnât medically necessary and needed to undergo further review. She explained: âUnited Healthcare has denied my preauthorization for my radical hysterectomy and treatment for my very severe endometriosis, pretty much four hours before my surgery is supposed to start. Iâm already here at the hospital. Iâm already set up. I got my IV going, and my surgery is scheduled for 12:05. Apparently, United Healthcare canât meet with my doctor, my surgeon, until noon, and theyâre requiring to do a peer-to-peer review of the needs for my surgery because they are deeming it not medically necessary.â The surgery is very necessary, though! The social media personality shared that her battle with endometriosis and frozen pelvis has caused a lot of problems with her health: âTo be clear, I was diagnosed with severe endometriosis, stage 4, and frozen pelvis back in 2018, which I didnât even know that I had after asking many, many doctors for help until we tried to have kids. When I started doing IVF, and we realized, âOh my gosh, you have really advanced endometriosis.â My uterus is pretty much fused to both my bladder and my bowel. Itâs called frozen pelvis. Everything on my insides have been stuck together for years, which caused significant back pain, cramps, heavy periods.â Oof... It is a much-needed surgery to end her pain and suffering, but United Healthcare doesnât see it that way. So, she was left waiting until âthe last minuteâ to know if they would even proceed with the surgery. And whatâs worse? Her fate was in the hands of an insurance doctor who knew absolutely nothing about her or her medical history, which is incredibly frustrating, understandably so, to her: âI know Iâm not the only person out there whoâs had to deal with insurance companies and all the crap thatâs going...
