Nitin Nabin attends Assam BJP executive meet, says NDA will safeguard citizens’ rights

Nitin Nabin attends Assam BJP executive meet, says NDA will safeguard citizens’ rights

Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) national working president Nitin Nabin on Friday (December 26, 2025) said the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) would not allow the rights of citizens over voting, land or welfare schemes to be taken away by anyone. Addressing the inaugural session of the Assam State BJP executive meeting, Mr. Nabin said infiltration had earlier been passed off as “normal” in the State as previous governments remained silent due to “vote bank” politics. He added that the BJP and the NDA were now working to send back illegal migrants. “There are some who depend on infiltration to win elections, but the NDA will not allow it. People will be allowed to choose their own government,” Mr. Nabin said. “Those who love this land, the tiranga (tricolour),and the Constitution are citizens of this country, and their rights over vote, land or schemes will not be taken away.” Referring to earlier governments in Dispur and Delhi, he said they had remained silent on the issue of infiltration, which had adversely affected the rights of genuine citizens. “But the public has placed its trust in the NDA and the BJP, and we are taking steps to send back infiltrators. I thank the people of Assam and the Northeast for this trust. The government alone cannot achieve this; people also have to be conscious,” he added. Referring to the recent Bihar Assembly elections, Mr. Nabin said allegations of “vote chori ” had been decisively rejected by the electorate. With Assembly elections due in Assam next year, he said the party was prepared to face any challenge and stressed the importance of organisational strength in securing another term. “There is no threat to the BJP-led coalition in the State. We have to work together to ensure the victory of all alliance partners,” he said. “Candidates may change, but our commitment to the party and the alliance remains. Our leader Atal Bihari Vajpayee led the largest alliance in the country, and we are taking that legacy forward,” Mr. Nabin added. He also highlighted the development initiatives undertaken in Assam under successive BJP governments and said the party remained committed to the growth of the State and the Northeast. The inaugural session was attended by Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, Union Minister Sarbananda Sonowal, BJP national vice-president Baijayant Jay Panda, Union Minister Pabitra Margherita, national general secretary (organisation) B.L. Santosh and State general secretary (organisation) Rabindra Raju. Earlier, Mr. Nabin was received at the airport by Mr. Sarma and other party leaders. “Pleased to welcome the Hon’ble National Working President of @BJP4India, Shri @NitinNabin ji at Guwahati Airport,” the Chief Minister posted on X. “He will participate in the State Executive Meeting and State Core Committee meeting of @BJP4Assam and enthuse our karyakartas ahead of #AssamElections2026.” Published - December 26, 2025 10:19 pm IST
