Two more arrested in case of illicit liquor sale in Mylapore
The Chennai police have arrested two more persons in connection with a case involving the sale of illicit liquor, procured from Andhra Pradesh, in the Mylapore area. Based on a tip-off, a police team led by Inspector, Mylapore police station, conducted surveillance on Papanasam Sivan Salai, Mylapore, on Wednesday (December 24, 2025) morning. In the operation, Vanitha, 36, a resident of Pidari Amman Koil Street, was caught selling illicit liquor stored in a 20-litre water can. The police seized the 20 litres of illicit liquor from her; she was later produced before a court and remanded to judicial custody. The police arrested two more accused in the case on Friday (December 26). They were identified as Abdullah, 36, husband of Vanitha and a resident of Pidari Amman Koil Street, Mylapore, and Manikandan, 40, of Kannagi Nagar. The police inquiry revealed that the accused had procured the illicit liquor from Andhra Pradesh and sold it in the city. The police also found that Abdullah is a history-sheeter with nearly 28 criminal cases - including nine cases of attempt to murder - pending against him at the Mylapore police station.
