
Two dead in ANOTHER construction crane collapse in Thailand – just a day after train crash disaster killed 29
A CONSTRUCTION crane has collapsed on a busy road in Thailand killing two people, a day after another crane fell on a moving train and killed 32. The horror incident occurred on an extension of the Rama 2 Road expressway, a major artery leading from Bangkok. The crane and a concrete beam both caved in at part of the road project in Samut Sakhon province, crashing onto two vehicles and trapping them in the wreckage. Images show a white truck completely crushed by the huge concrete slab, with debris strewn around the terrifying scene. Remnants of the crane can be seen precariously hanging from above. It comes just one day after 32 two people were killed in another crane collapse which smashed onto a moving train full of passengers. Several of the cars were derailed in the 9am local time crash in the Ban Thanon Khot district. Dozens were trapped inside the mangled locomotive as it caught fire with around 64 others injured including a one-year-old. Police and paramedics rushed to the scene to try and rescue those trapped inside the mangled metal. Pictures show multiple cars of the train laying on their side surrounded by debris. Hanging both above the line and down on the tracks sits light blue and yellow chunks of the fallen crane. Police superintendent Thatchapon Chinnawong said: “The construction crane collapsed onto a running train leaving from Bangkok. “At this stage, we are still unable to confirm the identities of the deceased, but the injured victims trapped inside the train have all been evacuated.” He added that it will take time to identify the bodies due to the severity of the crash. Police later confirmed dozens were treated at the scene for injuries with around 55 passengers being taken to hospital with minor injuries and another eight for treatment on severe wounds. Injuries range from head lacerations, leg fractures and chest wounds. Brave survivor Dao Boonpanya, 70, managed to pull himself out of the wreckage. Recalling the horror, he said: “While the train was travelling, I was asleep and I suddenly heard a loud crash as a crane fell onto the roof of the train. “Then the locomotive dragged the crane along, causing the carriage to be torn off the tracks.” Investigations are ongoing into the cause of the tragedy.
