Huey Morgan to leave BBC 6 Music after 17 years, with Nick Bright to exit 1Xtra
Huey Morgan will be leaving his BBC 6 Music show, while Nick Bright will also be leaving his long-running 1Xtra show, according to announcements from the broadcaster. The former Fun Lovinâ Criminals frontman has hosted The Huey Show since October 2008, but will host its final episode on December 27. No reason was given for the decision, and the following statement was shared by 6 Musicâs Instagram account: âHuey Morgan has decided to leave 6 Music and his last show will be on Saturday 27th December. We would like to thank Huey for being part of the 6 Music family for 17 years, and for bringing us all such a brilliant soundtrack to our Saturday mornings.â The post concluded: âWe will miss him and wish him the very best for the future.â NME has reached out to Huey Morganâs representatives for comment. At the time of writing, he is yet to speak about the departure publicly. Nick Bright has been with BBC 1Xtra since 2010, and is known from hosting the weekend breakfast and Saturday mid-morning programmes over the years. His final show will be 10am-1pm on Saturday January 3. âAfter 15 years with the network, Nick Bright has chosen to leave the station, with his final show broadcasting on Saturday 3 January,â the 1Xtra Instagram account posted. âWe would like to thank Nick for 15 fantastic years at 1Xtra, to which he has brought great energy and enthusiasm. He will always be a part of the 1Xtra family and we wish him the very best for the future.â In an Instagram story, Bright wrote: âSo much to say that I canât really put it into words right now. To anyone that has been a part of this journey, thank you.â New York-born musician Morgan rose to fame as the frontman of The Fun Lovinâ Criminals, who found particular success in the UK with three top 10 albums and eight top 40 singles. Morgan stepped down from the group in late 2021 . In a statement at the time, the remaining members wished him âall the best with his endeavoursâ and said they would âcontinue as Fun Lovinâ Criminalsâ. However, in 2023, he would criticise the current lineup on social media , describing them as âfrauds and cowardsâ as well as being a âtribute actâ. During his radio career, Morgan caused controversy in 2012 by criticising fellow 6 Radio DJ Lauren Laverne , calling himself âthe peopleâs champâ and saying Laverne âjust shows up and plays on Twitterâ. He would later apologise to the presenter for his comments. This year, he published his autobiography, The Fun Lovinâ Criminal , which charted the rise of the band, Morganâs struggles with mental health, and stories from â90s New York. The reviews were overwhelmingly positive, praising his honesty and authentic voice.
