Elon Musk says AI will make âGrand Theft Auto 6â before Rockstar
Elon Musk has claimed AI will be able to create and release Grand Theft Auto 6 before the official launch of the highly-anticipated sequel later this year. In 2023, Musk promised that his new AI studio xAI was going to â make games great again â but over the past twelve months, the billionaire has focused on controversial Twitter chatbot Grok instead. Late last year, he said he still intends to enter the world of video games and claimed that heâll âwill release a great AI-generated game before the endâ of 2026. He also said that Grok will be able to make a âwatchableâ movie by the end of 2026 with âreally goodâ movies following in 2027. Now, Musk reckons AI will be able to beat Rockstar in creating Grand Theft Auto 6 . âThereâs definitely a non-zero chance we get âgenerate your own GTA 6 in a few minutesâ before GTA 6 ,â wrote AI tech CEO Guillermo Rauch, with Musk agreeing with the prediction. Yeah - Elon Musk (@elonmusk) January 12, 2026 âWe have text-to-image and text-to-video, so text-to- GTA is the next logical step in generative AI,â added Epic Games boss Tim Sweeney. âYou wonât even have to ask. AI will figure what video game youâd like best,â replied Musk. Rockstar have been working on Grand Theft Auto 6 since 2014 with development ramping up after the release of Red Dead Redemption 2 in 2018. The game had been set to release last year but was delayed to November 19, 2026 to give developers more time to âpolishâ the release. However one recent report claims the game still isnât finished, with levels and missions still being added. Recommended Earlier this week, new Lara Croft voice actor Alix Wilton Regan quit Twitter over AI deepfakes that were made and shared using Xâs own Grok tool. âWhy did I do it? Because men and boys are creating child pornography, deep fakes of women, violent images against women, girls and other minority groups without any repercussions,â she explained. âSo, itâs simple: If Elon wonât protect me, my sisters and my friends, then Elon doesnât get my business or - more accurately - me as part of his business.â Musk previously complained that âtoo many game studios are owned by massive corporationsâ and said itâs âreally annoying when a video game gets interrupted by some [diversity, equity, and inclusion] woke bullshit.â He also confirmed that his daughter Comet Azure was named after an Elden Ring spell. In other news, the upcoming God Of War live-action adaptation has cast a video game veteran to play Kratos - but itâs probably not the one youâre expecting .
