NASA astronauts who cumulatively stayed longer at the ISS By Mashable News Staff Per NASA, Peggy A. Whitson (Ph.D.), an Iowa native, completed three long-duration tours of duty aboard the station for Expedition 5 in 2002, for Expedition 16 in 2008 and as part of Expeditions 50, 51 and 52 in 2016 and 2017. Altogether, she accumulated 665 days in space, the most for any U.S. astronaut and eighth on the all-time space endurance list at the time of her return to Earth. Whitson retired from NASA in June 2018. The additional 20 days are added in her gig as private astronaut for Axiom space. NASA's 1998 batch of astronaut, Sunita Williams is a veteran of three space missions, Expeditions 14/15, 32/33 and 71/72. During her career, she has completed 62 hours and 6 minutes of total spacewalk time. Selected as NASA astronaut in 1996, Donald R. Pettit has lived a total of 590 days in space and has 13 spacewalk hours. Another batch 1996 astronaut, Mike Fincke served as pilot of SpaceX Drgaon Crew-11 that returned Earth in a historic fist medical evac by NASA on January 15. In his career Fincke has nine spacewalks totaling 48 hours and 37 minutes of spacewalking in Russian Orlan spacesuit. In his career, Jeff has spent nearly 32 hours of spacewalk. He has completed four missions since his induction as NASA astronaut in 1998. His final spaceflight was in 2016. A NASA astronaut of batch 2009, Mark Vande Hei served in Iraq as combtant twice. His total spacewalking experince is 26 hours and 42 minutes. A 1996 NASA batch of astornaut, Kelly has conducted three spacewalks during his tenure, before retiring in 2016.
