3I/ATLAS: Avi Loeb’s Latest Study Reveals Interstellar Comet Rotates Every 7.1 Hours Since Perihelion

By James PaulMashable India

In his new paper co-authored by Abraham ‘Avi’ Loeb (himself) and Toni Scarmato Observatory in Italy, entitled “ Rotation Period of 3I/ATLAS After Perihelion from Jet Position Angle Wobble and Photometric Variability ,” the Harvard astrophysicist makes a remarkable observation using two independent approaches, including 1) harmonic modeling of jet position angle variability and 2) an independent photometric time series. Per the new data, “ Periodic wobble of the jet around the rotation axis did not change during perihelion.” Loeb adds, “The alignment of the rotation axis of 3I/ATLAS to within 10-20 degrees with the direction of the Sun at large distances is anomalous, as it has only a probability of 1.5-6% for occurring at random in interstellar space.” Per the observation in the paper, Loeb & Scarmato’s paper further adds, See Also: 3I/ATLAS: Harvard Astrophysicist Avi Loeb Flags Interstellar Object’s 17th Anomaly Discovered In SPHEREx Data See Also: 3I/ATLAS: SETI’s 5-Hour Long Scan Did Not Detect Alien Radio Signal; Avi Loeb Questions The Methodology See Also: All 3I/ATLAS Scoop On Mashable India Here Cover: T.
